Driver Salary in UAE 2026 — What to Expect by Company and City
If you’re looking for driving jobs in the UAE — or you’re already working as a driver and wondering if you’re being paid fairly — this breakdown will give you a realistic picture of what the market looks like right now.
Salaries vary quite a bit depending on the type of vehicle you drive, the company you work for, and the city. Let’s go through it.
Light Vehicle Driver (Car/Van)
This is the most common driver category in the UAE. Roles include delivery drivers, company car drivers, staff bus drivers for smaller vehicles, and driver-cum-messengers.
Entry level (less than 2 years UAE experience): AED 1,800 – 2,200 per month
Experienced (2–5 years): AED 2,200 – 2,800 per month
Senior / personal driver for executives: AED 3,000 – 4,500 per month
Most light vehicle driver roles come with fuel or a fuel allowance, and some include a company SIM card. Accommodation is less commonly included unless it’s a package role.
Heavy Vehicle Driver (Truck / Trailer)
Heavy vehicle drivers earn more, but the work is more demanding. Long hours, multiple drops, and cross-emirate routes are common.
10-tonne truck driver: AED 2,500 – 3,200 per month
18-wheeler / trailer driver: AED 3,000 – 4,000 per month
Tanker driver (fuel/chemical): AED 3,500 – 5,000 per month (higher risk premium)
A valid UAE heavy vehicle licence is mandatory. If you’re converting a licence from your home country, it typically takes 1–3 months and costs around AED 3,000–5,000 through a driving school.
E-Commerce Delivery Driver
This is one of the fastest-growing driver categories in the UAE. Companies like Noon, Amazon.ae, Deliveroo, and Talabat hire large numbers of delivery drivers.
Noon / Amazon.ae delivery driver: AED 2,000 – 2,500 base + delivery bonuses
Talabat / Deliveroo (bike): AED 1,800 – 2,200 + per-order incentives
Some platforms offer per-delivery pay rather than a fixed salary, which can go higher if you complete a high number of deliveries
These roles often require a smartphone and basic app literacy. The work is physically demanding but has relatively fast hiring — some companies go from application to first shift within 3–5 days.
School Bus Driver
School bus drivers work school hours, which means they’re usually done by 2pm or 3pm. This appeals to many drivers who want predictable hours.
Salary range: AED 2,000 – 2,800 per month
Usually includes accommodation and sometimes meals
Requires a light bus or heavy bus licence depending on the vehicle size
Background check required — clean record is essential
By City: How Salaries Compare
Dubai generally pays the highest driver salaries because the cost of living is higher and demand is strong. Abu Dhabi is close behind, especially for government-linked roles. Sharjah and Ajman tend to pay less but cost of living is lower too.
Dubai: Typically 10–15% above the UAE average for equivalent roles
Abu Dhabi: Competitive for government sector and oil & gas transport roles
Sharjah / Ajman: Lower base salary but accommodation more often included
What Affects Your Salary as a Driver in UAE?
Beyond the basics, a few things move the needle significantly:
- Type of driving licence: A heavy vehicle licence is worth AED 500–1,000 more per month than a light vehicle licence in most companies.
- Years of UAE experience: Employers pay a premium for UAE driving experience specifically — they know you understand local traffic rules and road culture.
- Language skills: Arabic-speaking drivers are preferred by some government entities and can command higher salaries. English helps with navigation and customer interaction.
- Clean record: A history of no accidents and no traffic fines is a genuine differentiator. Many companies check your Salik history and driving record.
